In 2008, Derek was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Music from Austin Peay State University in Nashville, TN his hometown. He graduated Summa Cum Laude, and when not in classes, he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and participated in building churches abroad and in the United States. Throughout his college career, he toured with various major label artists as a professional guitarist and musical director. In 2013, as a professional musician (credits include LeAnn Rimes, Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, Mike Posner), Derek was integral in developing a job board and career consultation firm for music industry professionals with over 100,000 subscribers. In addition to becoming CEO of the company, his roles within the startup included SEO optimization, PPC campaign management, web design, product development and project management.
Since 2016, when Derek moved to Bend, Oregon he has provided SEO services, project management, PPC campaign optimization/management, web development and creative design services to local businesses. Derek’s most recently has provided these full stack services to Summers Flooring & Design and Summers DIY Flooring. Derek provides these services at the highest industry standards – paired with his intuition and integrity, his clients and their ROI goals are met with enthusiasm and proficiency.
Derek is the father of two young children. He enjoys hiking and the outdoors, building and repairing analog music equipment and spending his time performing with his two bands, Union Road and Precious Byrd.
